Tequila comes from Agave, which is not a cactus as some may think. An Agave is a Succulent and belongs to the Lily family; its been closely related to the Aloe plant. There are more than 200 kinds of Agave, but Tequila comes only from Agave Azul Tequilana Weber (Blue Agave Tequilana Weber). This Agave was studied and classified by Franz Weber, a German Botanist in the late/early 1800/1900’s. He was brought by the Cuervo Family who were the first to produce Tequila.
